Hi Hamilton
We had an interesting time in Inverell. The family history people had lots of information on Barry’s great grandfather (William Henry Bond) and we went to the cemetery and found his gravesite. Unfortunately, as you will see from the attached photos, the headstone has fallen off its base. A son (Walter) who died at the age of three is buried with him. I am thinking about contacting a local stonemason to see it there is anything that can be done to put it back together again if it’s not too expensive.
Briefly, William Henry was born in London UK in 1841 and died in Inverell NSW in 1895. He came to Australia as a child, worked for the Sydney Morning Herald before moving to Inverell. He was married twice, two children by the first marriage and eight by the second wife including the one who died. WHB was the owner/editor of the Inverell Times from around 1880 until his death.
It was great to see you even though it was only for a short time. Let’s hope it’s not another 20 years before we meet up again.
Lots of love
Linda
