Alan’s Photos from Worcester Park

|

Alan Warren has been investigating the area around Worcester Park, which was Henrietta’s final residence, and her burial place. Below is his letter (and the photos that accompanied them)  in their trip half way round the world by snail mail:

Hi Ham

I’ve been a bit ill over the past month or so with a really bad common cold which refused to go away. Now I’m better and I’m getting ready to move back to Emerald Quay on (sometimes) sunny Shoreham Beach.

Good to see that Linda’s efforts have solved the puzzle of old Thomas Warren – I simply couldn’t trace the correct records & settled for the marriage to Ellen Maria Backwell in London (not far from Surrey County Cricket at the Oval). Now I can update my family tree ready for a trip out to Essex/Suffolk to meet Yvonne Hesketh who is a direct descendant of James Warren’s eldest son, Henry.

Also, I have enclosed a print of my dad’s family tree as it’s the easiest way for you to update your online records (I think). I will be happy to add further comments if needed once this basic data has been sorted.

Pic 1 is the War Memorial at the top of the hill as Central Avenue, Worcester Park, zig-zags then goes on to North Cheam. Immediately behind you can just see the base of St Philips Church which is all that is left after it was found to be unsafe & was quickly pulled down in 1976

A few gravestones remain but most have been removed for ease of maintenance which makes it a pleasant place for a spot of lunch on a sunny day (as it was when I stopped off there in July 2008). Heven’t found any burial plot details – kept at Sutton – but this is the last resting place of the youngest of the three Hamilton girls. Records show Henrietta Bazine (Hamilton) was the first to marry and the first to die.

More packing to do but it’s a nice day – hope it lasts for moving day next Tuesday (I’m taking a chance as it’s the 13th)

Cheers
